The SideKick has a lot going on in its résumé. For a portable vaporizer, I’d say it’s chock-full of features you’d find on a desktop unit. Its variable heat setting is a serious upgrade from the average portable vape. While most portable units sport three to five preset temperature levels, the SideKick provides its users with a wide range of temperature control. The levels are adjustable in increments of “0.5 from 1 to 11” which allows you to customize your sessions whether you’re vaping dry herb strains or waxy oil concentrates. Its temperature spectrum goes from “100°F to as high as 455°F.” You can vaporize almost any wax concentrate whether it has thick or runny consistency, even loose-leaf materials with varying moisture levels will find the perfect heat setting for an effective and efficient means of vaporization. The SideKick provides the perfect temperature environment for botanical matter and wax materials.
I used dry herbs for this review and I noticed that the best temperature setting if you’re looking for better tasting results, is around 4 – 4.5 and anything that’s over 7 –385°F– could be pretty harsh. You can play around 5 to 6 for the perfect blend of lip-smacking flavors and visible clouds of vapor. If you’d like to vape with the highest setting, the 18” vortex vapor cooling path helps dissipate the heat from the vapors allowing you to draw cooler clouds. One trick I’ve seen some folks from my circle do is to freeze the vortex vapor cooling path in the fridge from 20 minutes to about half an hour. It yields noticeably cooler vapors which help make riding the SideKick’s high temp waves a bit more tolerable. A glass bubbler can also be attached to the SideKick which lets you enjoy moisture conditioned hits, this optional attachment coupled with a frozen vortex vapor cooling path makes for a unique experience.
The SideKick uses a mixture of conduction and convection heating which allows your materials to heat evenly, the loose-leaf material I packed cooked to a golden brown, without getting charred. Its hybrid heating vaporizes the herbs without reaching the point of combustion. Its heating component is complemented by an all-ceramic heating chamber which faithfully preserves the flavor profiles and the aromas of your wax and weed.
The SideKick Portable Vaporizer comes with a travel pouch where you can put all your vaping stuff. The bag holds everything from the portable unit, your battery charger, cleaning, and maintenance kit, to spare batteries and your wax and herb materials.
The SideKick Portable Vaporizer performs fairly well even when it’s used outdoors. I tried vaping with the SideKick around places and I’ve found that the built-in stirrer does help improve the vaporizer’s performance. We all know that stirring your materials prevent combustion but you simply can’t afford to remove all your vaporizers’ pieces in public to just stir your herbs. The integrated stirring tool allows better circulation of air which then helps improve the SideKick’s overall performance. A large .25 gram chamber capacity allows you to load more material than ever letting you take on longer vaping sessions without requiring frequent reloads. This means you don’t have to expose the materials and the chambers often when you’re vaping outside.
An LCD display allows you to clearly see the status of your vaporizer even in daylight. It informs you of all the important details when you’re vaping like heat level, battery life, and run-time. It also features vibration functions which let you know when the Sidekick is ready after heating up your materials.
What I loved about the SideKick as a portable vaporizer is its interchangeable and removable batteries. I always go for the ones that have replaceable batteries since it does not restrict you from using the only batteries you have. I like keeping several batteries with me when I go out so I could just snap a fresh batch of batteries whenever I’m low on power. The SideKick does a good job of battery placement, keeping the batteries where it’s easy to just take them out and replace them.
Built to Last
You can say that the SideKick is the quintessential portable vaporizer, it functions well even when used on the fly and it’s outfitted with a strong anodized aluminum housing to protect it from daily wear and tear and regular carrying activity. Like most of 7th Floor’s vaporizers, the SideKick features superior quality from the inside out. The hand-blown glass mouthpieces are made from durable medical-grade glass components to ensure they won’t break easily even when exposed to higher levels of heat.
The SideKick’s elegant and ergonomic design allows you to hold the SideKick with ease. The design and engineering of the SideKick is overall original, I’ve never seen any vaporizer that looks and functions like it.
